Who We Are

Aldeia da Fonte is a “Charm Hotel” conceived to be a bastion for truly sustained ecological tourism. Its edification was based on the traditional local architecture and involved mainly the use of regional natural materials, such as basalt, our volcanic rock.

It is a five-building based hotel, perched over the sea, having the splendorous Pico Mountain for background. The surrounding artistic gardens, with most of the original flora preserved, reflect the care and elegance invested on this serenity haven. The hotel provides with 32 charming accommodations, each with personalised decoration that includes restored antiques and recuperation of various objects, depicting history and local culture.

It's restaurant, "Hocus Pocus" has earned the reputation of the best of the island, with cuisine that goes from regional to vegetarian and international dishes.
We privilege personalised service and proximity with the guest, going beyond common hosting. Genuine smiles are served together with your morning coffee and your comfort is addressed with care.

Through a decade of activity, we have been destination of choice for tourists from the "four winds", with a predominance for Americans, Central Europeans and British guests.

Our Animals

As a green hotel located in true nature we have our pets which we would like to introduce to you.

Some are just very much what you expect. Some others not so much, like our bats or our ants! But there you are, they make part of the whole picture.

Our fish pond

We have a comunity of bats living in the holes between the stones of our houses. They are tottaly harmeless and give sunset a special atmosphere. Bats is one of the most distinctive groups of animals. They are mammals since they are covered by fur and suckle their young, yet they can all fly in a sustained manner which no other mammal can do. They therefore form a well-defined division called the Order Chiroptera, a name meaning 'hand-wings'.

Since we are a green hotel right in natures we are sometimes visited by our harmeless and sweet mouth friends - ants.
There are many species of ants. Their favorite food varies according to the species. Sweet foods are very important for worker ants as sources of energy for outputting power and the protein of insect bodies is an important material for building up the ant's body.

Be prepared for an extraterrestrial, humanlike, noise at night. This is none other than our "Cagarras", Cory?s Shearwaters, who herald in our Spring. Theses "night" birds hunt fresh fish at night and sleep during the day.
